Automatic Ventilation for Cow Barns as Heat Countermeasure
Livestock farmers are exercising ingenuity to protect cows from heat as summer grows hotter.
“Shintoku Ayu Milk” is an incorporated agricultural organization that was financed by JA Shintoku Town and established in March 2016. Immediately afterwards, the organization introduced an automatic ventilation system developed by a Canadian manufacturer to cow barns.
By controlling the rotational speed of large-sized fans with a diameter of 6.1 meters, farmers can adjust temperatures. Eight fans were installed on the ceilings of 2 cow barns respectively that accommodate 200 dairy cows. If the room temperature reaches 20 degrees Celsius or higher, the fans automatically generate cool air from the ceilings any time of the day or night.
