Large scale Niseko resort developed with Chinese capital

Sources recently learned that the Chinese real estate developer “Virginia” located in the central Hokkaido town of Niseko is planning a large scale resort project featuring one condominium with over 100 rooms and five cottages around the “Niseko Village Ski Resort” area inside Niseko. Large scale development backed by mainland Chinese investors is not something that is seen often. The plan is to commence building construction as early as next summer and open the facilities by the winter of 2023.
The resort’s name will be “Feather Resort Niseko.” The planned development lot is an approximately 4.2 hectare lot in the Soga area of Niseko, located about 1.2 kilometers southwest of Niseko Village Ski Resort. The hotel portion is planned at about 20,000 square meters total in size, with 11 floors above ground and two floors below. All five additional cottages are being planned as three-story buildings. The rooms will be sold individually, and buyers can rent their rooms out hotel style if they choose not to live in them. The total investment amount has not been publicly released, but sources believe it will exceed ten billion yen.
