Back after a year! JOIN ALIVE at Iwamizawa in September

The 2019 JOIN ALIVE, with a record high attendance of about 40,000 attendees

At Open-Air Concert Hall Kitaon in Iwamizawa Park, located in Central Hokkaido’s city of Iwamizawa, the music event “JOIN ALIVE” has been greenlit after a year absence, to the joy of local residents and sightseeing industry workers. Due to thorough implementation of novel coronavirus spreading prevention measures, the event will be held two months later than normal, on September 4 to 5.

Last year it was cancelled for the first time due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Sponsor Mount Alive (Sapporo) commented, “We want to hold the event with full spreading prevention measures implemented,” and is currently firming up specific event details, including the restricting of the number of stages and attendees.

A man from Iwamizawa who has been to the event five times in the past expressed joy, “I haven’t been to see live music for a while now, so I’m excited about this. I want hip hop musicians to come.”

Local tourism based companies are also excited. Iwamizawa Tourism Association Executive Managing Director Ishikawa commented, “This will of course depend on the future infection rate, but I am hoping we can expect a synergistic effect together with other autumn events.”
