Blue Illumination to Thank Medical Workers

On June 25, eight landmarks in Sapporo including the famous Former Hokkaido Government Office Building known as “Akarenga” or the Red Brick Office Building were illuminated in blue to honour medical workers fighting the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. This event was planned by the Hokkaido Government and Sapporo City Government to mark the one-month anniversary of the lifting of the state of emergency.

The Sapporo Clock Tower, the fountain in Odori Park, and the observation deck of the Sapporo Dome were also illuminated.

At the Red Brick Office Building, from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., beams of blue light were seen streaming into the night sky while blue lights flickered from behind the windows. This spectacular show made passersby stop to gaze at it.
