Cherry blossoms to bloom early this year? Sapporo, Hakodate, Obihiro peak viewing season at end of April

According to cherry blossom blooming forecasts for this spring announced by sources including the Japan Weather Association, Hokkaido weather is expected to transition to high temperatures in April and May, and blooming is expected sooner than normal in areas all around Hokkaido. In Hakodate, Sapporo, and Obihiro, the peak viewing season is expected to start at the end of April.

According to the forecast, the earliest major Hokkaido city to experience blooming will be Hakodate, starting around April 22 to 27. That is one to six days earlier than usual. Sapporo is forecast to see blooming starting around April 23 to 27, which is four to eight days early. The length of time from first bloom to full bloom is expected to be around one to five days in each area.
