Christmas illumination lighting ceremony at Sapporo Factory

A gigantic Christmas tree was lit up on the night of November 2 at the shopping mall Sapporo Factory in Chuo-ku, Sapporo. This year, in order to prevent spreading the novel corona virus, the ceremony was carried out without audience and was streamed live on YouTube, a video streaming site.
The Christmas tree is a Sakhalin fir that is 35 years old, weighs about 3 tons, and is approximately 15 meters high. In appreciation for medical workers who fight at the novel corona virus frontline, they added 10,000 more blue LED lights than last year and put up 50,000 LED lights in total. The lights were lit up simultaneously with a countdown at 10:30 pm. They will be lit from 4 pm to 10 pm until December 25.
