Design Week held in Asahikawa, which is a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network
Asahikawa Design Week 2022, an event in which to learn about and enjoy design, was held from June 18 to 26 at the main venue in the Heiwa Dori Shopping Street in front of JR Asahikawa Station. This year’s event focused on Asahikawa furniture as well as food products, and conveyed the appeal of design in daily life.
The event was organized by the Executive Committee, comprising the City of Asahikawa and 30 organizations involved in the furniture and food processing industries. It was the first time in three years that the event was held at the venue, due to the spread of the coronavirus. Among the various exhibitions and events was the ‘Food Design Exhibition,’ which featured approximately 200 food packages from local companies, including sake with labels that evoke images of ears of rice, and ramen noodles with the product name written in bold gold letters.
From June 22, the Asahikawa Design Center exhibited new products from furniture makers in and around Asahikawa. Factories and showrooms were also opened to the public.
