In preparation for an expected overlapping of novel coronavirus and influenza spreading, the Sapporo City Transportation Bureau started work implementing anti-virus processing for all 405 Sapporo Municipal Subway cars and street cars (Shiden). Work is proceeding at a pace of about 20 subway cars total per weekday across three subway lines and about four street cars per weekday. The work will be complete within January.
The project cost is approximately 17 million yen. Subways are being processed at three rail yards in the city, while street cars are being processed at the street car yard in Chuo-ku.
