The ‘Asahikawa Machiakari (town light) Illumination,’ and event in which 140,000 light bulbs illuminate the city center of Asahikawa, is currently being held. The silver-white world of glittering lights can be enjoyed in four areas, including Heiwa-dori Shopping Park and Showa-dori Street.

At the rotary site, which is illuminated with blue lights, the number of floodlights has been increased from last year in a show of appreciation to healthcare workers amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

At the lighting ceremony held at the A.s.h Atrium on November 27, the first day of the event, the city mascot ‘Asappy’ and others appeared and pressed the switch to turn on the lights. As the blue and white lights lit up the shopping park, a woman from the city who was visiting with her eight-year-old daughter looked on. “You can take beautiful photos,” she said enthusiastically.

The illuminations will continue until March 6, 2022. The lights will be turned on from 4:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and from 5:30 p.m. as of February 14.
