Sapporo Factory’s Customary Christmas Tree Light-up
The customary ‘Jumbo Christmas Tree’ appeared at Sapporo Factory, a commercial complex in Chuo-ku, Sapporo, on November 3. The tree is decorated with ornaments and over 50,000 LEDs in six colors, including white, red, and pink, for visitors to enjoy.
A tree has been donated by Hiroo Santa Land (Hiroo town, Tokachi region) every year since the facility opened in 1993, and this year’s tree is approximately 30 years old, 15 meters tall, and weighs 2.4 tons.
Although this year’s lighting ceremony was canceled due to measures to prevent the further spread of Covid-19, many people turned up to see the illuminations, and could be seen capturing images with Smartphones as the lights came on in time to music. “It’s the first time I’ve seen such a big tree,” said a happy 5-year-old boy from Sapporo, who came with his parents.
The tree will be lit up from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. until December 25.
