The “Red Bull Jump & Freeze” event was held at Sapporo Teine Ski Resort (Teine-ku, Sapporo) on March 28. Participants wore creative and silly costumes, slid down a slope on snowboards and sleds, and jumped into a pool. This event has been held in different locations worldwide since 2003. This year marks the second time in Japan after Niigata in 2008, and the first time in Hokkaido.
Red Bull Japan (Tokyo) hosted the event. 37 teams (one to four people per team) from inside and outside of Hokkaido participated. The slope course was approximately 70 meters and the pool was 6 meters wide, 10 meters long, and 1.2 meters deep. Five judges awarded a total of 50 points to teams based on the originality of costume and DIY sleds and performance while jumping into the pool.
The approximately 350 spectators applauded and laughed at spectacles including a participant dressed in a full body dog suit doing a spinning jump into the pool and a motorcycle shaped sled running off the course and breaking.
