Awesome vistas before your eyes! Tomamu’s ‘Unkai Terrace’ opens for this season

‘Unkai Terrace’ (height of 1,088 m), the popular spot in Hoshino Resort Tomamu (in the northern Hokkaido village of Shimukappu) that affords panoramic views of a sea of clouds, opened for business this season on May 12. Approximately 140 visitors could be seen taking photos of the sea of clouds beneath the blue skies.
The opening ceremony was held at 6:00 a.m. on ‘Cloud Walk’, the aerial walkway. Fireworks were launched in line with the calls of the MC, and white flags inscribed with visitors’ wishes were flown. “It’s even more beautiful in real life than it is in the images and photos. It’s fantastic,” said a smiling company employee visiting from Saitama Prefecture.
Currently, construction work is being carried out on the deck of the Unkai Terrace to enable the sea of clouds to be viewed at even closer range. It is due to re-open after refurbishment in August this year. The terrace will be open for business this season until October 14.
