Only Hokkaido Water Flushing at Nakasatunai Dam
The Obihiro Development and Construction Department is flushing reservoir water stored at the Satsunaigawa Dam in Nakasatsunai Village, East Hokkaido.
The construction of the dam has prevented the water level in the Satsunai River from rising. However, this has led to environmental changes such as the foresting of the riverbed.
This is the first attempt in Hokkaido to release reservoir water all at once to wash away the seeds of non-indigenous trees and bring back the original fauna and flora like the chosenia (a species of willow).
