On October 3, a light covering of snow formed on the summit of Hokkaido’s highest peak – Mt. Asahidake in the Taisetsu Mountain Range in the Kamikawa region of central Hokkaido – creating a landscape that signals the arrival of winter. However, it was not officially recorded as the first snowfall of the season, as the snow could not be confirmed visually from the Asahikawa Local Meteorological Office in the city of Asahikawa.

In "ski orienteering", skiers check their maps and ski cross-country to the designated spots, vying to be the fastest skier. A ski orienteering activity for beginners was held on April 10 at the Asahidake Cross-Country Ski Course in Northern Hokkaido's town of Higashikawa. Approximately 40 elementary and junior high school students enjoyed competing.
On September 26, the Asahikawa Local Meteorological Observatory announced that it observed the first snow cap on Hokkaido's tallest peak, Mount Asahidake (2,291 meters tall), in Daisetsuzan National Park.
