On December 14, Lotte released ‘YOIYO Akkeshi-Ritto,’ a luxury chocolate made with whisky from Kenten Co., Ltd’s Akkeshi Distillery (Akkeshi). This is the second collaboration between the two companies. The sale of the chocolate will be limited to a special website and the Conquiglie roadside rest area in the town.

Successful lottery-ticket holders begin to purchase ‘Shosho’ Akkeshi Whisky as limited edition of 60 bottles go on sale
Sep. 11, 2021The sale of Akkeshi Blended Whisky ‘Shosho’ to successful lottery-ticket holders began on August 28 at the "Akkeshi Gourmet Park Conchiglie", a Michi-no-Eki (roadside rest area) in the town of Akkeshi in the Kushiro region of eastern Hokkaido. The whisky is a new product of the Akkeshi Distillery, a whisky producer in the town. To prevent the whisky being sold on for a higher price, the sales method was changed from the previous general sale to a lottery method, and just 60 bottles went on sale. The number of applicants was 12 times the number of bottles available.

Hokkaido’s first ‘Japanese whisky’ for sale
May 17, 2021Whisky manufacturer Kenten Co., Ltd. Akkeshi Distillery (Akkeshi, eastern Hokkaido) will begin selling its new product, ‘Akkeshi Single Malt Japanese Whisky Boshu’ on May 28. It is the first Hokkaido product to be sold under the name of ‘Japanese whisky’, which is proof of it being distilled in Japan, and approximately ten thousand 700-ml bottles will be produced.

"Hakkaisan" whiskey launching in Niseko
April 22, 2021Hakkaisan Brewery (Minamiuonuma City, Niigata Prefecture) is a brewing company known for its Japanese sake "Hakkaisan", but on March 24, it also started producing whiskey in the "Niseko Distillery" facilities it constructed in the town of Niseko. This summer the company plans on adding a newly constructed sales shop area to the distillery and refining it as a hub for tourism.

Hokkaido alcohol aging in the Tsugaru Strait
Nov. 4, 2020Sapporo bar owner Ikkei Honma started an enterprise to age Hokkaido-made Western alcohol and sake along the ocean floor. After amassing financing through crowdfunding, he will submerge alcoholic beverages in the Tsugaru Strait starting in January of next year, age them there for about a year, and then market them as a new Hokkaido flavour.
