Sapporo White Illumination begins at Odori Park and 4 other venues

The 41st Sapporo White Illumination, which lights up Sapporo’s winter nights, opened on November 19 at five venues in the city, including Odori Park in Chuo-ku. Approximately 730,000 LEDs shine in a variety of colors, including red and blue, creating a magical atmosphere in the vicinity.

The LEDs at each venue were all turned on at once, at 4:30 p.m. At the West-1 block of Odori Park, many people could be seen taking pictures in front of red- and white-lit monuments. A woman from Sapporo, who was taking pictures with her friend using a smartphone, smiled as she said “When I see these lights, I feel that winter has arrived.”

The light-up period at the Odori venue (Odori Park blocks 1 to 6) will continue until December 25. The Ekimae-dori venue (Kita 4 to Minami 4) will be lit until February 12, 2022; and the Minami Ichijo-dori (Nishi 1 to 3), Kita 3-jo Plaza (Kita 2 Nishi 4 and Kita 3 Nishi 4), and Sapporo Station South Exit Ekimae Plaza (Kita 5 Nishi 3) venues will be lit until March 14, 2022.
