Seven top curling teams gather in Wakkanai
A tournament to commemorate the opening of a new curling rink at the Wakkanai Midori Sports Park was held from November 6 to 8. Seven top domestic men’s and women’s curling teams took part in the fiercely competitive games. It was the first time Japan’s top teams had competed at this facility. The event also provided an ideal opportunity for local curling officials to accumulate experience in tournament management.
The commemorative tournament was held as part of the ‘World Curling Tour’ Japan series. As the tour has been continuously cancelled due to the covid 19 virus, the event was planned to maintain competitiveness.
To prevent further spread of the coronavirus, the tournament was held with no spectators in the venue, but images distributed via the You Tube video sharing site have been viewed more than 600 times.
