Surprise fireworks display symbolizes hope of corona virus abatement
Ganbare Asahikawa, Surprise Fireworks” was held at a ski resort in Asahikawa on the night of July 17 as a symbol of hope for the quick abatement of the novel coronavirus pandemic. The event was hosted jointly by Junior Chamber International ASAHIKAWA and Hokkaido Shimbun Press Asahikawa Branch. It was held without spectators and publicizing was suppressed until immediately before the event in order to prevent crowds and social-distancing problems.
The display lasted for five minutes and featured 38 large-scale fireworks blasts. Blue and silver chrysanthemum blasts lit up the night sky in succession, with the blue blasts symbolizing gratitude towards the medical professionals standing on the frontlines of the coronavirus fight and the silver blasts symbolizing hope for a bright future.
