Craft beer brewery opens in Iwanai

Iwanai Brewery & Hotel, a craft beer brewery, opened on July 10 in the annex of the Iwanai Kogen Hotel in the town of Iwanai in the Shiribeshi region of central Hokkaido. The establishment comprises a beer bar and guestrooms. In the beer bar, which opened in advance, tourists and the like have been enjoying craft beer made with Iwanai deep-sea water.
The basement of the establishment comprises a brewing facility and a beer bar (approximately 30 seats), and the 1st and 2nd floors house a total of 10 guestrooms. Room reservations are scheduled to begin being accepted in late July. The beer bar offers half pints (284 ml) of India Pale Ale (IPA) and stout (black beer) for 600 yen. A non-alcoholic homemade ‘hop soda’ (400 ml, 400 yen) is also available.
At a pre-opening event on the evening of July 9, craft beer was served to approximately 50 locals. “We are highly satisfied with the quality of the beer, and hope people will discover the joys of craft beer,” said Arai Takashi, brewery manager and managing director of the Kogen Hotel. The beer bar is open on a reservations-only basis from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m. (open for lunch on Saturdays and Sundays only). Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
