Free bus service tours wineries in Niki

The free loop-route bus that tours the wineries on Saturdays and Sundays

A free loop-route bus service limited to Saturdays and Sundays, which departs from JR Niki Station and takes in wineries and the like in the town, has been reintroduced in the town of Niki in the Shiribeshi region of central Hokkaido for the first time in two years.

The bus service was launched in FY 2020 in an effort to raise the profile of wine tourism. Last year, the service was cancelled due to the impact of the COVID virus. This season, operation began on July 3, two months earlier than in the initial year, in order to sound out the needs of users.
The bus takes about one hour to tour the area dotted with many wineries and vineyards. As well as NIKI Hills Winery and Le Reve Winery, the tour also takes in establishments that offer wine produced in the town. A woman visiting from the town of Kutchan who rode the bus on July 16 said, “I enjoyed four glasses of wine. I was able to relax and enjoy the view of the fields.”
Five services a day will operate until September 18. The buses run every hour and a half, and you can hop on and off as you please. Winery tours require separate advance reservations.
