Luxurious sightseeing train arrives in Hokkaido

The Royal Express is a luxurious sightseeing tour train which will be operated by JR Hokkaido from August 28 to September 18 by renting it from its owner Tokyo Railways Co., Ltd. (Tokyo). It arrived in Hokkaido on July 23.

The Royal Express was transported from JR Shizuoka Station near the train’s base to a depot in Sapporo by JR Freight. It reached Hokkaido via the Seikan Tunnel before dawn on July 23, two full days after departure in the early morning on July 21, and arrived in Sapporo late at night. Some 20 enthusiasts who had heard about the arrival gathered at an overpass of the Muroran Line in Date City and took photos of the train running along the coast.
