‘Jozankei Nature Luminarie,’ an event that features a nighttime footpath decorated with light and sound, began on June 1 at the Jozankei Onsen hot-spring resort in Minami-ku, Sapporo. This popular event usually attracts around 50,000 visitors each year, and is scheduled to run for 145 days until late October. This is the 7th year in which the event has been held.

Ten projectors will be set up along the 230-m-long footpath from Futami Park to Futami Suspension Bridge, as well as on the suspension bridge itself. As well as images of footprints and the characteristic head dishes of ‘kappas,’ in reference to the legendary creature that features in the resort’s folklore, projection mapping will also be used to project images onto the natural scenery to express the blessings of nature, such as water and flowers.

The event is aimed at those staying overnight in hotels and inns in the Jozankei area, and entrance tickets are distributed to guests at the accommodation facilities.
The event will be held every day from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. until October 23. In September and October it will start one hour earlier at 6:00 p.m. https://jozankei.jp/luminarie/ (Japanese language only)
