‘Nature Luminarie’ begins in Jozankei

‘Jozankei Nature Luminarie,’ a projection mapping and illumination event along the banks of the Toyohira River that hopes to convey the appeal and abundance of nature in the vicinity of Jozankei Onsen (Minami-ku, Sapporo), began at the venue near the Futami Suspension Bridge in Jozankei Futami Park on July 1.
Organized by the Jozankei Tourism Association, the event involves 10 projectors and illuminations set up along 230 meters of footpaths and a suspension bridge. The projections and illuminations include petals of flowers that represent the blessings of nature, as well as images such as the footprints and dish-shaped depression on the head of the ‘kappa,’ an imaginary creature that appears in Jozankei folklore.
In order to prevent the further spread of Coronavirus infections, the event will be open to overnight hotel guests only, and will continue every night until October 20. The times are 7–9 p.m. in July and August, and 6–9 p.m. in September and October.
