‘Workation’ facility MUJI HOUSE completed in Kamishihoro

The MUJI HOUSE interior, complete with furniture and sundries with simple designs

‘MUJI HOUSE Nippo-no-Ie Kamishihoro’ an office sharing facility with an accommodation function, being constructed by the town of Kamishihoro in the Tokachi region of eastern Hokkaido, has been completed, with guests to be accepted from April 29. Developed in collaboration with a subsidiary of Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd., which operates the MUJI lifestyle goods store, the interior is furnished with MUJI brand furniture and sundries. The MUJI HOUSE is the first of its kind in Hokkaido, and features a simple interior and exterior with white as its base color. It is designed for ‘workation’ (work vacation) use, in which people work while traveling.
Located on town-owned land adjacent to the Kamishihoro Roadside Rest Area, the two 2-story wooden structures have a total floorspace of approximately 120 and 110 square meters, respectively. The first floor includes a common kitchen and living room, with four private rooms for overnight lodging on the second floor. The facilities come complete with approximately 150 MUJI-brand products, including electrical appliances, tables and tableware.
The bathrooms are fitted with showers only, and those who wish to bathe in a bath can use the ‘Fureai Plaza Bathhouse,’ a municipally-run public bathhouse or the Nukabira Gensen-kyo hot spring, as the aim is to create an economic ripple effect.
Mayor Takenaka Mitsugi has high hopes for the facility, saying, “Teleworking has become widespread amid the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope that it will become a base for exchanges between businesspeople in the town and beyond.
Accommodation rates per person per night are 5,700 yen during the off-season (March to June, October, and November) and 8,600 yen during the peak season (July to September and December to February). Rates do not include meals. Discounts for consecutive nights are available. For reservations, please visit the following website. https://kamishihoro.today/
